Here is one of the three paintings of Toulon by Joseph Vernet, a royal command. The title chosen by Vernet was "Le Port neuf pris dans l'angle du parc de l'artillerie". In the translation,there is a mistake about the French words "pont" (bridge) and "port" (used in both languages). Instead of comments on the naval shipbuilding, one could have said more about the ships lying in the background: in a few months, again in commission, they will leave to fight Admiral Byng's fleet.
